Fisher House Foundation Inc.
Mission
Fisher House Foundation is best known for its network of more than 100 comfort homes where military and veteran families can stay at no cost while a loved one receives medical treatment. These homes are located near major military and VA medical centers nationwide, as well as in Europe, close to the medical center or hospital they serve. Fisher Houses have up to 20 suites, each featuring a private bedroom and bath. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a warm dining room, and an inviting living room. Fisher House Foundation ensures that there is never a lodging fee. Since its inception, the program has saved military and veteran families an estimated $650 million in out-of-pocket costs for lodging and transportation. The Fisher House Foundation also operates the Hero Miles and Hotels for Heroes programs, which utilize donated frequent flyer miles and hotel points to bring family members to the bedside of injured service members and provide lodging when a Fisher House is unavailable. Other programs include scholarships for military children and children of fallen and disabled veterans, as well as the Fisher Service Awards grant initiative, which provides grants for other nonprofits with innovative quality-of-life projects.
Vision
Fisher House Foundation will continue to build Fisher Houses as long as there is a need. We believe that it is important to show those who have dedicated their lives through service in our Armed Forces and their families that we recognize and appreciate their significant contributions and sacrifices, and care about them in their time of need. Through our programs, we seek to have a positive impact on the quality of life of those we consider to be “our greatest national treasure… our military service men and women, and their loved ones.”
Goals
- 1.Fisher House Foundation has built more than 100 Fisher Houses and will continue to build as long as there is a need. There are more than 20 hospitals that have identified a need for a Fisher House.
- 2.We have increased the number of Fisher Houses to over 100. We have increased support through our grant program, the Fisher Service Awards, our Hero Miles and Hotels for Heroes programs, and our scholarship programs.
- 3.Fisher House Foundation believes that we cannot be all things to all people. We work closely with other nonprofits that support the military and veteran communities because we believe that by working together, we can have the greatest impact on those we serve.
