Mission

Teach For America is the national corps of outstanding recent college graduates and professionals of all academic majors and career interests who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools and become leaders in the effort to expand educational opportunity. Our mission is to build the movement to eliminate educational inequity by enlisting our nation's most promising future leaders in the effort. During Teach For America's first year in 1990, 500 men and women began teaching in six low-income communities across the country. Today, some 6,000 Teach For America corps members work in 29 urban and rural areas, impacting 400,000 students annually.
