Mission

Founded in 1961, ACCION International delivered the first microloan in 1973 in Recife, Brazil. By providing micro-loans and business training to poor men and women who start their own businesses, ACCION's 30 partner lending organizations in 23 countries help people work their own way up the economic ladder, with dignity and pride. With capital, people can grow their own businesses. Of the $9.4 billion disbursed in the last decade, ACCION's historical repayment rate has been 97 percent. Our goal is to bring microfinance to tens of millions of people - enough to truly change the world. In order to achieve this goal, ACCION has created an anti-poverty strategy that is permanent and self-sustaining.
