Mission

Bar-Ilan University in Israel was founded in 1955 to answer the need for a traditional institution of higher learning in Israel, and was designed to integrate Jewish studies with academic excellence. Bar-Ilan was granted a charter from the State of New York, the only university in Israel awarded this distinction. Bar-Ilan now boasts nearly 20,000 students from some 40 countries. Its five faculties, consisting of Jewish studies, humanities, social sciences, law, and natural sciences are composed of 32 departments and 66 research institutions, offering 6,000 courses toward bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. The special characteristics of Bar-Ilan University can be defined by the harmony between science and religion; driven by its pursuit of tolerance and understanding among all segments of the Jewish Community.
