Mission

The Maymont Foundation maintains and operates Maymont, the 100-acre Victorian country estate of Major James Henry and Sallie May Dooley. The Dooleys completed their opulent mansion in 1893, and spent the next three decades creating the gardens, landscapes and outbuildings you see at Marymont today. Upon Mrs. Dooley's death in 1925, Maymont was bequeathed to the City of Richmond. In 1975, the Maymont Foundation was formed to undertake overall responsibility for the property. The Maymont Foundation actively seeks public support, grants, private donations and corporate contributions to fund Maymont's preservation and its operation as an educational resource.
