Mission
Established as a high school in 1915, Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) is the nation's only historically Black and Catholic institution of higher learning. The ultimate purpose of the University is the promotion of a more just and humane society. To this end, Xavier offers a variety of opportunities in education and leadership development to the descendants of those who had been historically denied the liberation of learning. This preparation takes place in a pluralistic teaching and learning environment that incorporates all relevant educational means, including research and community service. XULA enrolls more than 3,000 students with slightly more than half coming from Louisiana, primarily New Orleans.
