Mission

Founded in 1987, the mission of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) is to find ways to prevent and cure pulmonary hypertension, and to provide hope for the pulmonary hypertension community through support, education, advocacy and awareness. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a rare blood vessel disorder of the lung in which the pressure in the pulmonary artery (the blood vessel that leads from the heart to the lungs) rises above normal levels and may become life threatening. Today, PHA offers a network of over 140 support groups; an active patient-to-patient telephone helpline; a biennial conference and scientific sessions; three research programs; numerous electronic and print publications, including the first medical journal devoted to PH.
