October 1, 2010
It has now been three months since we launched the second dimension to our rating system – Accountability and Transparency. We are pleased to report that our data gathering efforts have been going quite smoothly overall, information tabs are going up on hundreds of charity report pages each month as we compile the data, and we look forward to integrating this new dimension of information into our star rating system by July of 2011. To see how this fits into our overall timeline to complete our transformation to CN 2.0, we have developed the following graphic:
We are also delighted to announce that we have added another outstanding expert to our Advisory Panel. We welcome Dr. John Zeitlow who is a Professor of Finance at Malone University and the author of a number of books on nonprofits including Financial Management for Nonprofit Organizations. Welcome aboard!
We also have begun our Hewlett Foundation funded project to test using graduate and undergraduate students to assist us in rating charities. We are proud to have the following schools working with us during their fall semester:
The students will not only be helping us to test this option of inexpensively scaling up our operations, but will also be learning invaluable lessons about how to evaluate charities. We know that many of them will be future philanthropists and leaders of charities. It is our privilege to be working with them!
Finally, October and November are looking like they will be quite hectic months, filled with lots of speaking engagements for me including events in California, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York,. To see a list of all of them, click here and scroll down the right side of the page (the list is directly under the advertisement). Please do say hello if you attend one!
All the best,
