Supporting our troops and helping the families they leave behind

Consider Supporting Operation Homefront chapters

I would disagree with your assessment of the national organization. This is not to discourage donors from donating to our chapters. We encourage it, however, I will say that our chapters are separate entities and file taxes separately. This 4 - star Charity Navigator rating that we have earned two consecutive years applies to only the national organization.

I like this organization's mission but suggest giving to your local chapter. I volunteer with a chapter and while we don't have the impressive financial metrics that the national organization has, most of the latter's numbers are a result of in-kind donations. In addition, the national organization is bloated, has tons of internal issues, spends a lot on travel, and is not very good at what it does. The chapters, which get very little help from the national organization, are more deserving of support.

While we are committed to transparency regarding our stewardship, Operation Homefront is bound by a prior agreement not to disclose the details of Mr. Harrington's compensation other than his total compensation, as required by the Internal Revenue Service. As noted, the salary of our current President has been reduced. We believe that our current President’s salary reduction allows Operation Homefront to remain steadfast in its mission to serve our military families.

Operation Homefront has lots of internal issues. Three presidents in the last few years is just the tip of the iceburg. Several key people recently left the organization. Not a good sign.

I'm ready to donate but would like a response.

I'd like to know why the former president is earning more than 3 times the salaries of the current president and vice president.
