MADD rating in historical context
Posted by JST | September 8, 2009 5:46:47 AM
A look at the historical data shows MADD lost its second star in '07 when its revenue fell, a common problem these days. In that year its fundraising efficiency actually improved. Still, this shows MADD is operating marginally as a prominent charity and has room for improvement.

I agree with LMR. Charities waste too much money on gifts. They don't influence me at all in my giving. I'm disappointed that MADD has such a low rating and will suspend my donation until it improves. As well as gifts, you send way too many information packets. I've been a donor for many years and hope you can improve as this is a great work.
Stop sending all those gifts in the mail

It's a shame that your organization, with such good intentions, continues to spend so much on advertizing. Whenever I get mail from MADD it contains two to four gifts. This is such a waste! When are you and other well intentioned organizations going to realize that people do not have to be bribed with gifts; if the cause is good people will send money but they want to make sure that every dollar counts. More and more people are using Charity Navigator to see where the money is going and you received only one star. For that reason I cannot in good conscience give to your very worthy cause. I will, however, keep an eye out to see if your rating gets updated.

Please, please quit sending "free gifts" - it is such a waste of scarce funds for your programming. We are becoming very discouraged with MADD - all hype and no substance. Let us know WHAT you are doing. Unfortunately no other organization has a similar mission.
