ACF Exec. Dir. comments on Star Rating

Greetings. As our executive director, I felt that our public foundation's star rating may warrant an explanation. In 2006, our trustees voted unanimously for ACF to refocus its role on supporting conservation groups operating within Alaska, and to transitioning our advocacy work in the Lower 48 work to another NGO. The short-term result was a decrease in program expenditures, which in turn decreased our rating in Charity Navigator. However, this was a strategically wise decision. With our renewed focus supporting Alaska's grassroots, we are having a greater impact on Alaska's front lines of conservation than ever before. In FY2009, we will have our largest grantmaking year ever. I welcome all persons interested to contact us directly with questions about our foundation, or to download our annual report (posted on our website). We take your philanthropic investment seriously, and appreciate the importance of researching how your conservation efforts are managed. We also appreciate the valuable service provided by Charity Navigator to make philanthropy a more transparent endeavor. Sincerely, Nick Hardigg Executive Director nhardigg (at) akcf.org
