salaries and comment to N. Hampson for Oct 2008

I advise that you check Animal Haven's 2007 IRS report to discover that the Executive Director makes close to 100,000--93,000 to be exact--and the Associate Director earns at leaat $70,000. This is close to two years ago. The 2008 IRS report will reveal current salaries. Please support a local shelter that is much closer than 3 hours away, as you describe. Ask them pointed questions. I implore you NOT to support this group with "limited adoption policies," which say nothing about caring or taking in abused cats or dogs. This is NOT the REAL Animal Haven, which was a no-kill and kind organization, founded in 1967 in Flushing, Queens. Thank You. WE DEEPLY MOURN THE LOSS OF OUR COMMUNITY SHELTER.

This non-profit suddenly chsnged their mission from no-kill to "limited admission" and dismantled a 40 year old community resource in Flushing, New York to move to a high priced boutique in Manhattan. No one will ever know what happened to the 200 and more cats and dogs--WHO WERE SUPPOSED TO BE PROTECTED FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES NO MATTER WHAT-- PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT THEM.

Most people saw the article I wrote yesterday about the outrageous behavior of the employees of the Animal Haven Soho Boutique in Manhattan.

I guess it was too much for them to take because they flagged it off the postings.

To reiterate, the employees were standing in front of their storefront laughing, taking pictures of the protestors and recording nonsense on some kind of recoding machine while former volunteers of Animal Haven were pouring their hearts out to passerbys about the upcoming killing of the animals that are still are the Flushing shelter. The shelter is scheduled to be closed this week.

The Animal Haven Van was also parked in front of the Soho Shelter. Don't you think it should have been out giving those left in the shelter their last chance to be adopted? Instead they had it in front of their storefront for show with informational brochures on it. There were about 5 employees who sat in front of the storefront all day. What a waste of manpower. Those same people sitting there making fun of the protestors could have been out getting those animals left at the shelter adopted.

How callous can you be to laugh at death? If you have been to the shelter and seen the pathetic animals that are left at that shelter you would cry. I am sure they have not received medical treatment just lilke the cat they adopted out this past Friday to a volunteer. And of course, these animals will be considered sick and deemed unadoptable and there you have it. Animal Haven now has an excuse to kill them.

The people at Animal Haven Soho should not even be allowed to operate a pet store. They are heartless and uncaring. They are also promoting themself as the Animal Haven that was. Which they are not. Animal Haven in Flushing

Please look into the current status of this charity before donating. As of late January 2009 they have closed both the Flushing shelter and upstate sanctuary and have openly become a kill shelter. Many volunteers have written letters to the Attorney General's Charity's Bureau to get them to shut down for a period of time and reopen under a new name, which they are legally obigated to do, so that people will not be mislead by old information available on reputable sites like these.

Animal Haven...correction

Hi...I think my friend may be wrong about that "very large" donation to AH of a few years ago; I suspect what she was thinking of was the Maddies Foundation grant to a large group of no-kill shelters in this area. However, today's Daily News says that, while they are closing the Flushing, Queens shelter, which they currently OWN, they are supposedly paying $14000 per month rent on a location in Soho, a very fancy area of Manhattan. Does this sound like a responsible use of monies to you? A.

I suggest you look into recent happenings at this organization. They are closing their main shelter in Queens and according to some sources will only have a kind of storefront in SoHo (which I have heard is $14,000 per month rent and can only hold very few animals). It all seems very strange.

Excited to Donate

I am an animal lover, so I am excited to contribute to a relatively local charity (about 3 hours away) who's CEO doesn't draw a 6 figure salary. I also plan to volunteer time at a local shelter! Happy giving!
