Wasteful Charity
Posted by Billy  |  February 2, 2009 6:48:20 AM

I receive solitcitations twice a week from this organization with nickels inside. Only 37% of every dollar goes to programs. That's bad! Almost every comment seems to be from friends of Brian and Terri. I've also written and said i would not give to this chairty because it wastes money and to not send me anymore letters. I still receive them twice a week!

Can you do any better?

Not many people are strong enough to take on such a massive responsibility. How can anyone question their loyality to these cretures of God? God places beautiful people like Brian and Terri to do these exact things, that many of us can not do, are afraid to do or never had the passion as they do! I have learned over the years that I do not dwell in the negative remarks of others or the possibility of someone stealing money from the one thing they claim to have so much passion for. To me, I do not judge; I leave that to God. I find true peace when I visit Tiger Creek. Though there is saddness sometimes when one dies or is sick; there is nothing more beautiful than the sight of a great cat!

Brian and Terri, be strong in the Lord and know that you are loved for what you do. God will Bless you abunduntly!

Thank you for making it possible for my family and I to come there and enjoy the beauty of these amazing animals!

Though I do not have lots of money; I can clean, shop, shovel, scrub, wash, cut, mail - whatever volunteer work I can help with once a month!!! But I will send money when I can for Tiger Creek!!

Keep the Faith!

Great Job

I am very confident that my donations are being used for the appropriate expenses and care. These people are compassionate and truly love these animals; just like family members!!!! I would cherish the opportunity to do what they do; so I do what I can by making contributions towards the love, care and safety of these incredible and magnificent sentient beings.

This is my way of being part of the Tiger Creek family and making a positive difference. There is strength in numbers and I am thankfulfor people like Brian and Terri who risk everything to care for them and to love them unconditionally.

I am fascinated by Brian & Terri's dedication to save endangered tigers. We humans have decimated their population for our taste buds and I would go any length to support Terri & Brian because people like them are very much needed else we have lost another animal species. I have interacted with Brian & Terri over the emails and they are very honest and humble people. They have sacrificed a lot to save the magnificent creatures and we passionate animal lovers should support them more than 100%. I have been donating to Tiger Creek for long time and it is for the love of animals. Now if they take some portion of the donation to maintain their own basic living, I don’t think anyone should have issue with that. Big Cats at Tiger Creek exists because of Brian & Terri. Bottom line if we don’t support Tiger Creek who else will. There are many humans who will donate millions for human charities, but how many humans are really there like Brian & Terri who will do something to reverse human atrocities on big cats. Not many. Close your eyes and think about it. Tigers are close to extinction and if Tiger Creek is doing good we should support those efforts and not keep pointing fingers. It's tigers who will suffer and lets not do that.

The operation of any type of animal rescue facility is not a 9 to 5 type of job. Especially that of large animals, like tigers! There is an option for displaced tigers. I admire what you do, the websites for Tiger Creek and Missing Link are informative and insightful with regard to the plight of the tiger. Thank you for being part of the solution as opposed to the problem. I will donate soon! Kristen Keenan

I am confident that my donations go to the appropriate expenses. These people are compassionate and truly love these animals. I would give anything to do what they do but instead I contribute towards the care of these incredible animals. That is my way to make a difference. I thank God for people like Brian and Terri who risk it all to be there and love these cats unconditionally.

Tiger Creek/Tiger Missing Link

I don't know what that person was talking about. I worked with Brian and Terri in the early years and they scrimped and saved and begged in order to keep the cats well fed and healthy. Any "salary" they may have drawn was only to pay the utility bills to keep the place running and keep SOME food in their own belliles so they could keep caring for the cats. We ALL ate cheap back then! As for the rudeness, that's a very subjective matter and rude people often find rudeness in others--even when it doesn't exist.

Tiger Creek is a cutting edge animal sanctuary built on the self-sacrifice and the sweat of hundreds of volunteers, but mostly of Terri and Brian and their now small, but regular staff. Their cats are the happiest big cats I have ever seen in captivity. And they are not spoiled in the traditional way. No cats are overweight or coddled in a way that would be unhealthy for them. These animals are treated with dignity and the proper care for a WILD animal. The tigers and lions in their facility are healthier than most zoo cats--who are not fed a proper diet for a big cat and who are kept on concrete their entire lives until they are too arthritic to live a happy life. You will find everything at Tiger Creek designed for the cats comfort and healthy long life--whether or not it's easy for humans.

I have worked in Nonprofit organizations for most of my life and have worked with animals my entire life and this organization is worth giving to and their need is great. So many cats need safe places to relocate to. I encourage everyone to give even a $1, but please give more if you can.

Personally, I have always been happy and confident with my interactions and use of donations in regards to Tiger Creek. They have always been very passionate and caring about their wildlife refuge. I am a regular giver to this charity.

Greatest sanctuary for big cats

In my next life I would like to come back as one of Tiger Creek's tigers, since they are so well cared for! I have known Terri and Brian since 12 years, and there are very few poeple as dedicated and as well educated about these magnificent animals as they are. They have given up everything for these cats' wellfare! Most of their animals are saved from abuse, neglect, misplacements...etc...They have shown unwavering committment to their programs, to manage the facility with their best abilities. This is definitly one charity I would honestly recommand to people to trust and give to. Zsuzsi Zetlin, Bethesda, MD

I know this organization intimately. Their financials do not reflect what's going on. This is an accounting problem only. Terri & Brian lived in a one room cabin for years taking little or no salary to care for their tigers. The past three years an intensive direct mail campaign has put the TMLF on a solid financial basis - expensive but worth it. The Werners leverage thousands of volunteer hours, donated food, equipment, building materials and technical assistance that does not show up on the books. The organization is lean and effective. People who visit see very quickly that the tigers are very well cared for. Brian and Terri are passionate about saving tigers as a species and are having a serious impact on improving the quality of care of tigers, not just at Tiger Creek, but worldwide. A recent visitor described the place as Disneyland for tigers compared to where the cat he sponsored had come from.

I can vouch for Terri & Brian being ethical people and can guarantee you their tigers are well cared for - they are spoiled rotten. The way Tiger Creek cares for tigers should be the industry standard. They are developing a program now to help other refuges learn how to design and build state of the art habitats and to develop safety and educational programs as part of a proposed network of refuges.

The problems over getting folks off their mailing list is common with large direct mail programs which buy new lists and often don't catch duplicates of folks they've already removed. TMLF can't afford full time development staff, so they rely on a hired direct mail company to fix their list.

Tiger Creek's board has paid Brian and Terri back pay for years when they were heavily underpaid or not paid. Founders often invest their own capital in a cause they believe in. The Werner's did and still do. They are passionate about the cause, sometimes to a fault. I challenge you to visit. You'll see a devoted staff and 42 happy cats.

RE: The owner is Rude!

I wrote to the owners, Brian and Terri Werner, of this organization to take my name off my list due to the information I found on this website., Brian Werner lied about not taking a salary for years (which they did), and lied about my name being on their list (which it was,- how else would I get a letter from them begging for money when they take home over $176,000., This was more than double from last year!). I certainly would not give them any money - if they are rude to humans, imagine how they treat the animals!!
