Mission

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) was founded in 1865 to create and convey the latest science and engineering knowledge in ways that would be most useful to the society from which its students came. WPI educates talented men and women in engineering, science, management, and humanities in preparation for careers of professional practice, civic contribution, and leadership, facilitated by active lifelong learning. WPI enrolls 3,016 undergraduate students and 1,141 graduate students with a student faculty ration of 13:1. WPI's 18 academic departments offer more than 50 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in science, engineering, technology, management, the social sciences, and the humanities and arts, leading to the BS, MS, ME, MBA and PhD.
