Mission

The Greenville Humane Society (GHS) opened its doors in 1937 as the South Carolina Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SCSPCA). Over the years, we have helped unite over 250,000 people in the upstate with previously unwanted animals. Our mission is to promote and improve the quality of life and humane treatment of animals. Methods for accomplishing this mission include reducing the unwanted animal population by placing them into homes and spaying or neutering the animals we receive, educating the public, encouraging responsible pet ownership, eliminating animal cruelty and suffering, and seeking support for animal welfare legislation.
