Mission

Founded in 1982, The House of Ruth, Dothan provides safe temporary shelter for battered women and their children who had left their own homes to escape being hit and hurt. The House of Ruth is a grass roots, private corporation developed as a result of two years of planning by professional groups, service agency representatives and concerned citizens. The agency provides services to an eight country service area in Southeast Alabama: Barbour, Bullock, Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston and Pike. Over 200 sheltered women and over 300 children received food, counseling, safe shelter, and advocacy in the past year. Over 250 out of shelter women were treated for sexual assault and over 700 were treated for domestic violence.
