Job Title: Vice President of Development
Reports To: President & Executive Director

Job Summary:
The Vice President of Development provides day-to-day leadership for all fundraising activities of Charity Navigator.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Recommends the fundraising budget to the President & Executive Director (President) and the Board for their approval.
- Works with the President and Board to plan annual fundraising goals in each major area (Board, Foundation, Corporate, Individual and Government).
- Plans strategies and implements actions steps to accomplish the annual fundraising goals.
- Researches foundation funding opportunities and completes grant applications.
- Researches potential donors to establish major gifts. Establishes contact with businesses and corporations to cultivate support. Cultivates donors in cooperation with the President and Board.
- Establishes and implements a Planned Giving Program.
- Plans, designs and implements a continual Direct Mail campaign if determined to be appropriate.
- Works with Board and agency management staff to promote all Charity Navigator fundraising activities for maximum impact. Represents Charity Navigator to prospective funders in coordination with the President and Board.
- Maintains all donor records and assures they are accurate and up to date. Also assures that all correspondence is sent promptly including donor acknowledgements, gift histories and all IRS regulations regarding donations are adhered to. Develops all printed fundraising materials. Assures appropriate ongoing contact with donors..
- At every Board meeting, provides a report on year-to-date cash received with comparison to prior year. Also reports on solicitations made that are pending or rejected.
- Other duties as assigned by the President
Background and Formal Educational Experience:
- A minimum of five years of leadership experience in development. Previous experience as a VP of Development or comparable position preferred.
- Bachelor degree required, advanced degree preferred.
- Demonstrated success in raising funds from a variety of sources.
- A passion for the mission of Charity Navigator.
- Ability to articulate a compelling reason for giving to Charity Navigator.
- Exceptional communication skills (both oral and written).
- Ability to work independently.
- Technical expertise with appropriate donor software packages.
- Demonstrated success at organizing and carrying out fundraising strategies and plans.
