In accordance with our policy for removing CN Advisories, Charity Navigator removed the High Concern CN Advisory for the Providence Plan on November 1, 2019, because the CN Advisory has been in place for more than a year (since April 7, 2017).

Charity Navigator had published a High Concern CN Advisory on Providence Plan because we became aware of the following information in connection with this charity:

  • On September 20, 2016, The Providence Journal reported on the operations of Providence Plan, a charity that has recently experienced a material diversion of assets, in an article titled, "Ex-Providence Plan finance director accused of gambling away funds embezzled from organization." For this reason, we have issued a High Concern CN Advisory. For more information regarding the charges reported, please see The Providence Journal article.

    • On March 22, 2017, The Providence Journal published an article titled, "Ex-Providence Plan finance chief admits to skimming $742,000 to feed gambling habit." For more information, please see The Providence Journal article.
