2025 Most Charitable Cities
In 2025, Charity Navigator raised more than $35 million through its Giving Basket. Donors in every part of the country and from all demographics contributed, with several communities standing out and earning recognition as the Most Generous Cities.
How We Measured Generosity: To identify the most generous cities, we grouped donors by zipcode and calculated the amount donated per capita in each city.
Cities are categorized by location or city size:
- Midwestern US
- North Eastern US
- Southern US
- Western US
- Very Small City <50,000
- Small City: 50,001 - 200,000
- Medium City: 200,001 - 500,000
- Large City: 500,001 - 1,500,000
- Metropolitan: 1,500,001>
Only cities with at least 10 donors were used, and using 2022 Census Population numbers for each city, we calculated the dollars donated per capita. Generosity was widespread, but several cities stood out for their exceptional spirit of giving.
