2024 Charitable Donation Outlook
As GivingTuesday approaches, Charity Navigator CEO Michael Thatcher joins Market Domination to break down current charitable giving trends and patterns across the US.
Thatcher highlights that charitable donations in 2023 reached $557.16 billion, representing a 2% decline compared to the previous year. He attributes this slight downturn to several factors, including economic uncertainties, growing donor skepticism, and evolving generational attitudes toward philanthropy.
Notably, younger donors are increasingly motivated by specific causes rather than traditional charitable institutions.
The recent election has significantly influenced donation patterns, with notable shifts in giving towards specific sectors. Thatcher notes there has been an increase in contributions to female reproductive health, civil liberties, and environmental causes — with Planned Parenthood experiencing a 2,433% surge in website traffic and donations post-election.
