    Kidney Awareness Month

Charities funding research, providing support for dialysis, transplant, and palliative care, and general support services.

March is Kidney Awareness Month. According to the National Kidney Foundation, Kidney disease is a leading cause of death in the U.S. An estimated 37 million people in the U.S, or 1 in 7 adults, have kidney disease, the two main causes of which are diabetes and high blood pressure. In 2020, over 700 children and adolescents 18 years and under received a kidney transplant, and more than 1,000 were waiting for a donated kidney.

Early detection is the best treatment when the disease can be slowed or stopped. If kidneys have failed, dialysis or a kidney transplant are two (of several) options for treatment. Nonprofits funding research, providing support for dialysis, transplant, and palliative care, as well as general support services are available.
