Hurricane Ian made landfall on Florida’s west coast as a Category 4 hurricane, with winds just shy of a Category 5 classification.

Millions of Florida residents were without electricity after wind gusts and record rainfall felled trees and power lines. Roads were impassable, and homes have been washed away or damaged. The Sanibel Causeway was also destroyed, limiting access to the island community. Cleanup and recovery are estimated to cost billions of dollars and last for months.
