Goal One: To ensure that the 70 children in our permanent care become self sustaining, well adjusted adults.

Our most important leadership training is done in Cambodia where we pay for staff to further their education, attend conferences, and learn from other NGOs. We are run by an experienced board of directors and have one part time staff person. The board are for the most part working at other jobs or retired professionals, each member bringing an important skill set to the management of TSF. The training that Board members do for their paid jobs often supports the training they need to do as board members, ie Financial classes or Human Resources. The paid staff person does in fact take non profit management classes but at her own expense. The only US expense is for online classes for software management.

What are this organization’s external mobilizaton efforts?
In the US, The Sharing Foundation has a national reach through our donor cultivation activities, such as direct child sponsorships and travel to our programs in Cambodia. We also participate in over 20 events annually where we sell crafts that we bring back from our sewing center in Cambodia and use the venue to describe our work. For example, we sell "Uniform Cards" that represent the donation of a uniform made at our center along with the pretty crafts people are buying. We are involved in the Rotary Club, in the local schools, in churches, retirement communities, and other social networks. At these venues, we sell our crafts and give educational speeches. In Cambodia, we frequently work with other NGOs to provide services for our children. We are a very big part of the communities where we work often with events at the local schools. Facebook, Eblasts, newsletters and frequent website updates ensure people all over the world can follow our activities.
The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
Cambodia schools have been closed for most of last year including our English Language schools servicing over 600 students. This past April, the head of our English Program rolled out remote learning for English classes and sponsored high school students, overcoming the challenge of reaching these families during lock down. The universities are also closed so all 35 students living in our dorms have returned home to their villages and are learning remotely with the support of our staff. These students were able to be vaccinated from Covid through our Cambodian Director’s efforts. TSF Board oversight trips were canceled so we had to find a way for our students and sponsors to communicate. Letters between the two create a bond and also reinforce English skills. We collected over 100 letters via email from sponsors and forwarded them to our Cambodian staff. The students wrote their letters back and that valuable connection has been maintained. Our farm is still operating with farmers practicing social distancing. Our primary focus is the Roteang Children’s Center where we are the only family to 70 children. The private school that many of our children attend offers remote learning. Those that attend public school were able to attend the private remote learning sessions, offering them a better education than they were previously getting! Other RCC kids who were living in vocational school are now at home, creating a new challenge as there are many unoccupied children with a large proportion of teenaged boys now bored and locked in our compound. Some of them have been helping with small maintenance projects on the ground and we have started to experiment with raising chickens. Internet has been improved for better learning tools and entertainment purposes. All but one of our staff members has been vaccinated as well as all of our eligible children.
