Perkins School for the Blind
Mission
Perkins helps children with disabilities and visual impairments find their place in the world. For nearly 200 years, Perkins has been the global leader in education services for children and young adults with disabilities and visual impairments. Today, Perkins makes quality learning accessible to 2 million children with disabilities around the world. From our renowned Massachusetts-based school, Perkins develops best-in-class teaching practices and shares them worldwide—through teacher training, sustainable education programs, and accelerating innovation for people with disabilities. Throughout our history, we have continually evolved our approach and organization to reflect the changing needs of our students and their families while upholding our core values of compassion, integrity, respect, and love.
Vision
Perkins is an International NGO working to make quality learning accessible to the 240 million children with disabilities globally through sustainable and scalable model education programs, teacher training, and early intervention and assessment.
Goals
- 1.Every child can learn. But most education systems lack the readiness to make quality learning accessible for the 240 million children with disabilities around the world. Through our sustainable, replicable, and UNESCO-recognized Model Program Approach, we are setting new standards and making education accessible for more children around the world.
- 2.Our world-class school has helped children build the foundation for a meaningful life by empowering them to navigate blindness and disability. The Perkins School provides a world-class education for children and young adults from birth to age 22, and it remains at the heart of everything we do.
- 3.Perkins was founded 200 years ago on the radical belief that every child can learn. We continue to challenge assumptions around blindness and disability, drive technological advancements that benefit the people we serve, and look to accelerate our international impact, all in service of building a better world for children with disabilities and visual impairments.
