Center for Public Interest Research Inc.
Mission
The Center for Public Interest Research is a non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization that conducts public interest research and runs civic engagement and public education programs around critical public interest issues. It also assists partner 501(c)(3) organizations in The Public Interest Network engaged in similar activities by sponsoring joint or new public interest projects, and by providing training and other support in areas such as advocacy, organizing, campaign development and packaging, and fundraising.
Vision
The Center for Public Interest Research works on issues that speak to the need for a new kind of politics. Our efforts challenge decision-makers, as well as all of us, to stop tolerating problems that are increasingly absurd in an age of advancing technology and growing abundance. How do we preserve irreplaceable resources like air, water and a livable climate for our grandchildren? How do we transform vast systems of transportation and energy that were designed to meet the needs of a different century? How do we produce food for a growing world in ways that won’t threaten human health and destroy the environment? How do we sustain the democratic ideal of the United States, as civic participation is diminished by consumerism and the rise of corporate personhood? Questions like these drive all of our work.
Goals
- 1.Through our development team: expand our efforts to establish major donor leadership circles in multiple cities in order to provide support for The Public Interest Network’s ongoing program work and expansion plans
- 2.Through the Frontier Group: produce timely & accessible research tracking clean energy progress & threats to clean water, exposing wasteful spending on fossil fuel infrastructure projects, & more.
- 3.Through Explore Booksellers, our independent bookstore in Aspen, Colorado: provide a vibrant intellectual gathering place that embodies the Aspen spirit - where books, ideas and the free-flowing conversation they initiate are part of the environment; increase educational programs and roundtables; partner with community organizations; and grow a revenue stream supporting Center programs
