As an organization that has stakeholders and donors all across the country, COIVD severely hampered our ability to remain connected and to fundraise. Typically, we would travel several times a year to meet with donors and to hold events in regions where we have a critical mass of friends. We were not able to do any of that for quite some time. We had to pivot and connect with our community in new ways.
The schools in Honduras had to send almost all of the students home. However, through the generosity of our donors we were able to provide every student in the 4th through 12th grades with a tablet device and internet account so that they could continue their academic progress. Despite the challenges we all faced we worked extra hard to be connected.
We worked to mitigate this problem by ramping up our online and virtual communications. We updated our website, we increased our social media presence and frequency and we held multiple "virtual" events that helped us to stay close to our community and to continue to tell our story. .
We will continue to boost our social media presence and to offer our donors and stakeholders online experiences that engage and connect them to our mission.

Our organization has a consistent and robust social media presence and this year has substantially increased our capacity in marketing and communications. Our ED in Honduras is a member of both the Aspen Institute and the Central American Leadserhship Institute. The ED in North America is a member of the Non-profit Leadership Lab. We have partnered with the many Episcopal Churches to improve our mission fulfillment and worked collaboratively with NGOs like Cristosal to better meet the needs of our students.

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
In a typical year the Executive Director and board members of EHMI would do a significant amount of traveling to engage with stakeholders and raise funds. This year we needed to pivot. There we two strategies that we employed that allowed us to stay in touch with donors and still raise our annual revenue goals despite the challenges of the pandemic. Firstly, we substantially increased our communications and marketing capacity. We hired a graphic designer in Honduras and we boosted our social media presence. With a new staff member working on our design and communication pieces we were able to reach our constituents more consistently and with much greater visual impact. We also convened a Virtual Town Meeting that invited stakeholders to join us on Zoom to hear updates about our program and mission Secondly, we hosted our first ever virtual fundraising event. Entitled Esperanza: A Celebration of Hope, we brought together more than 350 people to watch, engage with and support a program that featured both live and pre-produced elements highlighting aspects of our mission. The event was a great success surpassing our fundraising goals and bringing such a large part of our community together to celebrate and support El Hogar. Despite the very difficult challenge of maintaining community with our constituents during a global pandemic, these strategic decisions allowed us to stay in touch, to keep people informed about our program and our mission and to maintain our annual revenue flow.
