Tapestri Inc.
Mission
Tapestri is a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to ending violence and oppression in immigrant and refugee communities using culturally competent and linguistically appropriate methods. As advocates for immigrants and refugees affected by human trafficking, domestic violence, sexual assault, and exploitation, Tapestri uses education, community organizing, direct services, and advocacy to improve the lives of those it serves. Our name, Tapestri, symbolizes the different threads of society coming together to form a safe cover to protect its many-colored communities.
Vision
We believe every person, men and women alike, has the right to Live Without Fear. Tapestri exists to increase access to services for refugee and immigrant communities. We believe everyone should be able to seek and receive help and services which are respectful of her or his community, language, culture, gender, race, age, sexual orientation, disability, and religious beliefs. Recognizing that this is a lifelong process, Tapestri staff, board members, and partners attempt to live and model these values through interactions within our communities and among ourselves.
Goals
- 1.Providing access to full scope of legal services, paired with pre-existing culturally appropriate and linguistically specific social services available through Tapestri, this will assist victims in addressing their victimization, vulnerabilities and decrease potential for future re-victimization by serving those communities that have been historically marginalized and faced barriers.
- 2.The need to maintain a full-time development position was identified as an important area of focus if we are to advance the Tapestri brand, diversify funding sources, manage media campaigns, and build support for future programmatic growth.
- 3.One of the most pressing needs of our clients is housing. The additional needs include housing for male victims that do not have access to emergency shelter. These individuals do not have the appropriate paperwork to obtain long-term housing and the only emergency housing available includes homeless shelters which are often full or require the victim to leave the shelter during the day.
