Pegasus Therapeutic Riding

Mission

Founded in 1975, Pegasus Therapeutic Riding's mission is to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities and challenges through equine-assisted activities and therapies. Today Pegasus is a PATH International Premier Accredited Center with four chapters throughout Putnam, and Fairfield counties, including Pegasus Farm, our 20-acre permanent facility in Brewster, N.Y. Our PATH International-certified instructors, physical therapists, occupational therapists and licensed educators provide equine-assisted activities to people with special needs, military veterans and at-risk individuals, including disadvantaged youth and abuse survivors. We offer therapeutic horseback riding, an unmounted program, The Equus Effect for veterans and first responders.

1.Implement and expand Pegasus’ Trauma-Informed Equine-Assisted Wellness program to address growing mental health needs among veterans, first responders, and community members experiencing stress, trauma, and burnout.
2.In 2026 we will expand access by adding additional lesson times, increasing instructor capacity, and developing daytime school partnerships to serve more children with disabilities.
3.Invest in organizational capacity by training and credentialing additional PATH Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors (CTRI), strengthening volunteer training and program infrastructure, and improving systems that support long-term program sustainability and growth.
