As part of our formal training, we hired consultants to come in and sharpen our communications skills from a development perspective. The consultants gave us strategies to help improve our messaging and the direction of our development outreach, which has led to growth as a team overall. Informally, we continue leadership development by conducting biweekly staff meetings to continue to discuss and determine direction by communicating our goals, advancing our missing, and discussing problems as a team. Leadership is inspiring our team to live the vision, mission, and values of the organization, and we do so every month.

GLA has been tackling the injustices associated with Lyme disease with great success and measurable impact. GLA receives donations from all 50 sates. We have given over 12,000 elementary and secondary school teachers across the U.S. direct access, free of charge, to our Lyme disease prevention and education curriculum. GLA has helped hundreds of thousands become tick and Lyme aware through our summer camp program offered at 100 summer camps in multiple states in the north-east. And most importantly, we’ve committed $12 million grant dollars to scientists focused on researching new ways to combat this disease. Most notably, the organization partnered in 2007 with the Lyme Disease Association to fund and create the first research center for the study of persistent Lyme at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City.

The well-being of our community was an ongoing priority for Global Lyme Alliance (GLA). The COVID-19 pandemic created a new set of challenges for everyone, especially those whose health is already challenged due to tick-borne illness. In the last year we pivoted to focus on our digital offerings as well as virtual and online resources. They are as follows • Virtual support groups. • Peer mentor support. GLA offers free peer-to-peer mentor support for patients and caregivers. • Engage in social communities to connect with others in the Lyme community: Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter • GLA Educational Webinars • Virtual Events for the community, like the GLA Global Gala which was offered free of charge to the Lyme community
