Advocates for Children of New York

Mission

Advocates for Children (AFC) of New York promotes access to the best education New York can provide for all students, especially students of color and students from low-income backgrounds. We use uniquely integrated strategies to advance systemic reform, empower families and communities, and advocate for the educational rights of individual students. Our services include individual case advocacy, a helpline to assist parents and professionals, and workshops.

Our vision is that all New York City students have access to a high-quality, appropriate education.

Goals

1.Achieve more system-level change through increased policy advocacy.
2.Increase the efficiency of AFC’s direct service model by incorporating more non-legal staff (e.g., social workers, advocates, or legal assistants) into the development and follow through of cases.
3.Increase leadership opportunities and prepare and build diverse leadership to ensure AFC’s ongoing impact and relevance.
