Ending homelessness for women and children in Nassau County

Goals

1. 1.Through donation and grant funding, we were able to introduce enhanced therapeutic services in our emergency shelters to address the increasing incidence of behavioral challenges we observed as barriers to achieving sustained permanent housing for the women, and women with children, we serve.
2. 2.The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in longer than usual stays in our emergency shelters, where we observed that some women benefit from this extra time to strengthen their ed/voc and financial goals. Through grant funding, we opened a transitional housing program for highly motivated women to allow them to advance these goals.
3. 3.Nassau County has been placing women and children in motels as a result of a shortage of emergency shelter placements. Bethany House used our assets to purchase an additional home in June 2025 to serve 9 single women; it is scheduled to become state-certified and open in late 2025 to address this need.
