Much of funds come from fundraisers, grants and activities at our animal adoption center. Naturally, that all declined rapidly at the onset of covid.
How COVID-19 impacted the organization's delivery of programs:
We transport animals from high kill shelters across the country. All transports were cancelled. Our adoption program suffered due to the shut down. We had to limit our hours as well.
How this organization adapted to changing conditions caused by COVID-19:
We streamlined our adoption process by doing online applications and then arranging appointments for people to meet the animals. We began social media fundraising which really helped.
Innovations the organization intends to continue permanently after the pandemic:
As the pandemic still lingers, we continue streamlining our application process and our social media fundraising. New York is one of the covid hot beds so we have had to keep our mask, and social distancing policies in place.

Recently, we have incorporate boarding for feral cats pre and post surgery. Feral cats come to us to be spayed and neutered but the guardians of these animals face getting injured trying to keep them safe until there is a surgery date and healthy post surgery without getting scratched or bitten. People have suggested boarding the animals once they are trapped, and a need to board them post surgery so that the guardians and the cats are safe.

The nonprofit organization presents evidence of strategic thinking through articulating the organization's mission
Save-A-Pet Animal Rescue believes it is their moral responsibility to protect and improve the lives of abused, abandoned and homeless animals and to place them in loving, permanent homes. The Organization works diligently to educate the public, especially children, on the importance of pet sterilization and responsible ownership.
The nonprofit organization presents evidence of strategic thinking through articulating the organization’s vision.
A world without homeless pets. We are a no kill shelter, so we have spread our rescue efforts across the country to save the ones that will be euthanized in high kill shelters. Our immediate future plan is to have our low cost clinic open 5 days a week for spay/neuter services (we are only open 1 or 2 days since covid) and expand our shelter by opening a satellite shelter in Massachusetts. There we can house more companion animals and offer sanctuary to those deemed unadoptable due age or health reasons. We are excited to be able to spread our wings and be able to save more lives in the future. We will be renovating the new facility this spring.

Goal Type: Grow, expand, scale or increase access to the existing programs and services.
Goal Two: To expand our adoption services by creating a satellite adoption center in Massachusetts. This will expand our reach incredibly.
Goal Type: This goal reflects our commitment to further our advocacy work for our organization and or cause area.

Goal Type: New program(s) based on observed changes in needs among our constituencies/communities served.
The nonprofit provides evidence of investment in leadership development
Before Covid, we would attend leadership development seminars and conferences. Unfortunately they were costly to our organization but now that there are zoom leadership seminars and humane education conferences online, we are able to advance our leadership development in a greater capacity.
The nonprofit provides evidence of leadership through focusing externally and mobilizing resources for the mission.
Strategic Partnerships
Networks of Collective Impact Efforts
Raising Awareness
Policy Advocacy
We work closely with our community of animal welfare organizations and national organizations to help animals in need. By networking, we save and find homes for even more companion animals by partnering in transports that arrive weekly, veterinary care, that one organization may not be able to provide, and pooling our financial resources together to assist in large scale rescue operations. We have increased our social media, and marketing by 50% since 2020. Through that effort we have increased awareness of our mission and all the programs within it. Our advocacy efforts are a big part of our mission. We work closely with local and state representatives to strengthen the laws regarding such topics as pet stores/puppy mills, anti-tethering laws, and other animal welfare issues. We work diligently to educate the public, especially children on responsible pet ownership. Our outreach programs at schools and events always provide education, awareness and advocacy to the public.
The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
We have adapted by streamlining our animal adoption process. Through our new online adoption application, volunteer application, and online social sharing, we increased our visibility far beyond our brick and mortar shelter and adoption center. We introduced animals via facetime/zoom to potential adopters from all over the country. We even do zoom training and behavioral meetings now with our dog trainer as well as facetime/zoom veterinary consults if an issue arises. We expanded our dogs and cats profiles beyond our own website and have them on social media and other sites such Petfinder.com. We are now there practically 24/7 for our adopted animals. Now, that we are back open, we still implement these strategies to further our mission.
