    Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation

    Mission

Since our founding in 1946, promising scientists identified and supported by Damon Runyon have made breakthrough discoveries that have transformed our understanding of cancer and developed new approaches to its prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Damon Runyon offers six award programs aimed at encouraging and advancing the work of early career cancer researchers with the highest promise. Each program is designed to address a need or fill a gap in cancer research funding and is overseen by a separate committee of renowned scientists. Our rigorous grantmaking process seeks emerging talent who are willing to take risks with bold and innovative ideas. As of 2025, we have invested more than $490M to fund over 4,000 young scientists, including 13 Nobel Laureates and hundreds more who have been bestowed the highest accolades for their contributions to science and medicine.
