Phipps Neighborhoods Inc.
Mission
At Phipps Neighborhoods, we create safe, inclusive spaces where Bronx residents access education, career opportunities, and economic mobility to build thriving communities. Established in 1972 as the social service affiliate of Phipps Houses, we are a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of Bronx residents through education, employment, health, and wellness support. With a focus on the South Bronx, we employ a service saturation model to deliver whole-family support, serving over 14,000 individuals annually with a staff of 290 employees. Our core service areas include Workforce Development and Career Access, Community Empowerment Services, and Education. Programs range from Universal Pre-K and afterschool academic and enrichment activities to workforce development and job placement, financial literacy, food access, and targeted support for vulnerable populations. By addressing needs from early childhood to older adulthood, we aim to create pathways out of poverty and build stronger, healthier communities.
Vision
Phipps Neighborhoods envisions a New York City where community members of all ages have meaningful opportunities to realize their potential, build skills, and strengthen their neighborhoods.
Goals
- 1.Our goal is to strengthen organizational capacity by fostering adaptive leadership, integrating advanced technology, and upskilling staff to meet evolving demands. We are enhancing financial systems for strategic resource management, investing in robust data infrastructure for evidence-based decision-making, and embedding DEIB principles to foster an inclusive culture, driving sustainable impact.
- 2.We grow and scale programs to address evolving community needs, ensuring impactful, data-driven services. This year, we expanded food access, enhanced workforce training and employment support, integrated mental health partnerships to improve referrals, and scaled our resident services model to provide comprehensive, accessible support that drives long-term stability and opportunity.
- 3.We develop new programs to address changing community needs, creating opportunities for stability, upward mobility, and agency for the families we serve. In the current climate, this includes increasing access to food support, financial literacy, workforce development, and mental health services, ensuring timely, impactful responses tailored to the communities we serve.
