Mission

Since 1971, the New York City Police Foundation has worked closely with the New York City Police Department (NYPD) to innovate and enhance the quality of its services; build bridges with the community; and make New York City a safer place to live, work and visit. The Foundation assists, encourages and supports police programs by providing a tax-exempt vehicle for the receipt of gifts and grants to supplement funds which help meet the needs of the Department that cannot be readily met with public funds. This pioneering public/private partnership provides the Department with the means to launch experimental programs, nurture public safety innovation, and further its performance and professionalism. The Foundation also supports programs which are more appropriately funded with private resources or would be more difficult to undertake without these resources.
