Vision

Our mission is to help families and individuals affected by mental illness build better lives through education, support, and advocacy. Education: NAMI-NYC’s guiding principle is “families helping families.” We offer free classes throughout the year, for families, and for individuals affected by mental illness. Support: We provide nearly 40 ongoing support and social groups for people living with mental illness and for their family members. Groups are facilitated by trained peer volunteers with personal experience with mental illness, either in a family member, or in themselves. Advocacy: We advocate for mental health care access, the decriminalization of mental illness, education and school-based mental health supports, and supportive housing. Anti-Stigma: We are dedicated to increas­ing mental health awareness and encouraging family members and peers to listen to the experiences of individuals living with mental illness without judgment.

Goals

1. 1.Expand our reach: Develop offerings that expand our family focus and peer led approach to increase targeted populations
2. 2.Improve exposure & visibility: Significantly improve the brand recognition and awareness of NAMI-NYC in general public and critical industry institutions (e.g. medical, political)
3. 3.Improve operational efficiency: Improve processes and ways of working to improve organization efficiency.
