    Puppies Behind Bars Inc.

    Mission

Puppies Behind Bars (PBB) trains incarcerated individuals to raise service dogs for wounded war veterans and first responders, facility dogs for police departments, and explosive-detection canines for law enforcement. The puppies live in prison with their incarcerated raisers from the age of 8 weeks up to 24 months. Our service dogs learn more than 70 commands, including special commands to mitigate the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and TBI (traumatic brain injury). Our facility dogs are trained to work within police departments for community outreach and officer wellness. They build bridges with the public, help officers in crisis, and also help victims of crimes. Facility dogs also work with first responders to help people traumatized by natural disasters or accidents. The explosive-detection canines we train work with law enforcement agencies around the country to protect the public.
