Humanity in Action Inc.
Mission
Humanity in Action is an international leadership development organization offering transformative educational programs rooted in cross-cultural dialogue. Our participants engage with local histories of exclusion and dehumanization to identify lessons for today’s most pressing social challenges. Our mission is to: Educate tomorrow’s leaders on past and present human rights challenges through critical historical as well as contemporary inquiries and cross-cultural dialogue, developing essential skills to affect change; Connect an ever-growing international community committed to strengthening democracy, human rights, and pluralism; Inspire civic engagement for advancing social equity, responsibility, and justice.
Vision
We imagine a world where justice is nurtured by leaders grounded in history, guided by moral purpose yet aware of its complexities, and equipped to act with courage. Democracy is more than law; it is collective care, protection of minority rights, and dismantling systems of dominance and violence. Pluralism is practiced daily, with disagreement embraced as a path to understanding. Resistance to genocide, war, oppression, and environmental destruction is steadfast. Truth is defended, compassion practiced when hardest, and movements sustained by love, memory, and imagination. The younger generation, especially those historically excluded, not only has a seat at the table but the tools to redesign it for the challenges ahead. Humanity in Action is the catalyst, cultivating principled leaders who listen deeply, confront complexity, and act across differences.
Goals
- 1.Deepen Support of the HIA Senior Fellows Network: We aim to better support and strengthen the Senior Fellows Network through more frequent and more strategic convening and more compelling internal and external communications. We aim to strengthen relationships, catalyze mentorship and collaboration, and strengthen the platforms for Senior Fellows to disseminate their work and expand their reach.
- 2.Relaunch our Flagship U.S. Fellowship Program: While recruiting fellows for 2026 European Fellowship Programs, we will focus our efforts on relaunching a flagship U.S. Fellowship Program.
- 3.Enhance Governance & Operational Capacity for Excellence: Humanity in Action will cultivate an engaged, high-performing board of directors and a staff that is continuously growing, receiving regular training, and evolving to meet organizational needs.
