Bike New York Inc.
Mission
Bike New York is the leading non-profit for bike safety and education in New York City. Our bike education and safety programs, advocacy work, workforce development programs, and community events transform lives and create a healthy, vibrant, and sustainable city for everybody. A leader in creating a safer, more sustainable environment for bicyclists, pedestrians, and motor vehicular traffic, Bike New York leads education programs for delivery service workers, for-hire drivers, and bicycle commuters. Bike New York produces the world's largest bike tour, the TD Five Boro Bike Tour, which hosts 32,000 cyclists in New York City every May. Bike New York depends on charitable gifts and event proceeds to fund our education and community programs.
Vision
Our vision is to increase ridership, empower youth to lead healthy, productive lives, remove barriers to cycling, and advocate for and expand services to reach more New Yorkers.
Goals
- 1.Our youth programs encourage bicycling as an alternative, healthy, and fun means of transportation and as a way for students to explore the city while being good stewards to our natural environment. Rolling forward, we will work with our school partners and encourage youth leadership development to expand pilot current youth programs in partnerships with NYC DOE, and Nonprofit Partners.
- 2.We operate on a multi-faceted approach to getting more people riding bicycles. As described below, we are committed to providing bicycle education, reaching new communities, and improving access to bicycles. Reach groups that are underserved in the cycling community. Engage riders in new ways by cross-promoting various Bike New York events and programs; promote volunteerism.
- 3.While we directly serve more than 25,000 New Yorkers annually through our bicycle education programs, we recognize that to create a greener, more bike-friendly city, we need to work at an institutional level. We will work with partner organizations and government agencies to address driver education, bike parking, and other barriers to bicycling.
