Hearts of Gold Inc.
Mission
At Hearts of Gold, we work to break the cycle of poverty by supporting single mothers and children living in New York City shelters. We work with local shelters and providers by administering programs and services that address basic needs, build family resilience, and create pathways to stability through education, housing support, and employment. All of our work is guided by three pillars: Stabilize, Support, and Sustain.
Vision
Hearts of Gold envisions a future where no mother or child is defined by the experience of homelessness. Through a two-generational approach that supports both mothers and their children, we seek to restore dignity, strengthen opportunity, and help families move from crisis to stability. We believe homelessness should not interrupt a child's education, which is why our Virtual Learning Center ensures students in temporary housing receive consistent academic support. By strengthening education, employment pathways, and community connections, we help families build secure, independent futures and break the cycle of homelessness for future generations.
Goals
- 1.Fresh Start U prepares mothers living in temporary housing to enter or reenter the workforce. Through structured job readiness training, financial literacy, and life-skills development, the program helps women build stability, confidence, and employment pathways that support long-term family self-sufficiency.
- 2.The Hearts of Gold Learning Center provides virtual one-on-one tutoring to students in temporary housing in New York City, grades 2–12, with at least 3 sessions per week. Our goal is to expand across New York State and neighboring states and operate a 49-week program, so students receive consistent academic support. Because tutoring is virtual, education continues even when housing is unstable.
- 3.Hearts of Gold is expanding partnerships with shelters, schools, and community organizations, as well as with the local business community, to strengthen referral pathways for mothers and children experiencing homelessness. The goal is to build a network of key partners that increases access to tutoring, employment support, jobs, housing, and other services.
