Roundabout celebrates the power of theatre by spotlighting classics from the past, cultivating new works of the present and educating minds for the future. OUR WORK: We produce familiar and lesser-known plays and musicals with the ability to take artistic risk as only a not-for-profit can. We discover talented playwrights and provide them long-term artistic support to contribute to the future of the theatrical canon. We reduce the barriers-financial, physical and cultural-that can inhibit theatergoing. We collaborate with a diverse team of artists to identify programming for consideration. We build transformational education experiences that enhance teacher practice, deepen student learning, and ignite the futures of young people through career training and placement. In, 2021, we launched our Building a Better Roundabout 5-year strategic plan that we published on our website. It was created by a represented committee of 29 staff members with enthusiastic support of our board and executive leaders. It focuses on 4 pillars of our organization (On our stages, in our community, in our offices, and with our board). This is a comprehensive plan that will help us achieve our organizational goals of equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism.

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
We are proud of the progress we have seen as we transform our organizational culture through the adoption of a comprehensive EDI/AR five-year plan. We have continued to work with Elizabeth Williams-Riley and Tammy Bormann as we implement sustainable actions across all departments to further our efforts. Meanwhile, we have invested in new programs and initiatives that target key outcomes that will strengthen our own diversity, and that of our entire industry. Additionally, as our theatres reopen, we have made new efforts to cultivate impactful Community Partnerships and Audience Engagement programming. In addition to the 21,000+ free or discounted tickets we allocate for low-income families, young theatregoers, and community organizations, our voucher program will help ensure thousands of students have access to theatre. In August 2021, the Board of Directors and staff adopted and released our comprehensive five-year EDI Strategic Plan that outlines how this work touches every aspect of our operation. The plan outlines a new set of core values and six Strategic Priorities. Board EDI committee formed in 2019, centers four tenets of Roundabout: • On our stages, in our community, In our offices, and on our board. Roundabout has long committed resources to inspiring and preparing the next generation of theatre professionals, and especially to addressing the many barriers that have historically prevented young professionals of color from finding success in the theatre. Roundabout leadership has collaborated to devise a continuum of efforts that impact all aspects of theatre including technical craft , creative leadership, and arts administration . In all, these initiatives combine to create an expansive pipeline of young artists and administrators prepared to reshape and diversify our industry.
