Journeys in Film
Mission
Journeys in Film is a non-governmental, nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) status dedicated to advancing global education. Our mission centers on the use of film to educate and promote a richer understanding of and appreciation for the diverse and complex world in which we live. Our resources focus on mitigating existing attitudes of cultural bias and racism, cultivating human empathy and compassion, developing a deeper knowledge of global issues and current challenges, and encouraging civic engagement to create a community of globally competent citizens. Our resources use the audio-visual storytelling of films as a tool for engaging and inspiring others to want to learn more about our world. Compelling, age-appropriate films combined with comprehensive interdisciplinary curriculum guides support various learning styles, promote literacy, and foster deep learning around core academic objectives in key subject areas, such as Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, English Language Arts, Media Literacy, etc. While the central focus of Journeys in Film is on K-12 education, particularly middle and high school grade levels, we also strive to extend our materials into other educational settings, including libraries, community groups, corporate learning environments, homeschooling spaces, museums, and beyond.
Vision
We envision a world where today’s youth become compassionate leaders, driving societal progress through kindness, understanding, and scientific innovation. Our vision is to cultivate globally aware, media-literate citizens who are prepared to tackle the world’s greatest challenges and most pressing issues. Through engaging, film-based curricula and resources that foster empathy and cross-cultural connections, we aim to equip students to thrive in a diverse world. We inspire educators, parents, and communities to spark curiosity and creativity, preparing young minds to make meaningful contributions to a brighter, more connected future.
Goals
- 1.Establish financial sustainability, diversify funding streams, and strengthen organizational infrastructure to support long-term growth.
- 2.Forge partnerships that extend the reach and enhance the credibility of Journeys in Film’s programs.
- 3.Enhance Journeys in Film’s brand visibility and position the organization as the premier resource for film-based global education.
