MAPS Media Institute
Mission
MAPS' mission is to empower, inspire, and prepare Montana's next generation through professional media arts instruction, engaging community service, and compassionate mentorship. Founded in 2004, we offer free media arts classes at year-round studios in Fort Belknap, Lewis & Clark, and Ravalli Counties for youth 14 - 24. Our MAPS Media Lab conducts statewide outreach in rural and tribal communities, while our Client Productions Program engages youth in creating media for local organizations. We prioritize rural, low-income, and Native Indigenous youth, providing spaces and experiences to develop skills in communication, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking for future success. (*MAPS was an acronym for Media Arts in the Public Schools before becoming a 501c3 nonprofit in 2004)
Vision
MAPS Vision: a world that values the voice and work of all youth and supports them in creating successful futures
Goals
- 1.MAPS aims to expand our culturally responsive mentoring program to serve more Native American youth across Montana, addressing the heightened dropout rates and academic challenges in these communities. This expansion includes developing specialized cultural programming and increasing partnerships with tribal communities to better support indigenous students' success.
- 2.MAPS seeks to strengthen and scale our mentoring infrastructure by increasing mentor recruitment and training capacity, focusing on rural and Native Indigenous mentors. We aim to double our reach while maintaining program quality through enhanced mentor support systems and expanded school partnerships.
- 3.MAPS is investing in organizational capacity by enhancing our data management systems, expanding staff training in culturally responsive practices, and strengthening our financial sustainability through diversified funding sources. This includes developing specialized tracking tools for rural and Native Indigenous student outcomes and mentor engagement metrics.
