Hagar is committed to leadership development. In the past 12 months, Hagar USA has invested in key staff to speak at global anti-trafficking and anti-slavery conferences. Additionally, through leadership training and mentoring, Hagar's current Country Directors in both Afghanistan and Cambodia were identified among existing staff members and promoted to their positions. Annually, Hagar USA budgets for staff training and continuing education.

Hagar USA engages in strategic partnerships with national and international nonprofit and private sector organizations in order to advocate and raise awareness about the issues of human trafficking and modern slavery, and expand services and support for survivors. In collaboration with the Hagar International Federation, Hagar USA sends staff to speak at conferences, participates in global networks, and publishes research regularly. Through annual marketing and communications activities, we raise awareness of Hagar's mission on social media and other digital platforms.
The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
When Afghanistan's government changed in August 2021, no one could foresee how it would affect non-profit and international organizations in the country. Over the past 12-18 months, Hagar's frontline, local-led team, has adapted to changing policies and laws that affect their capacity to serve trafficked, exploited and vulnerable women and children. Afghanistan remains a challenging country to work in, and where few international organizations are able to operate. In this context, Hagar's national leaders have persevered. By patiently building authentic relationships, focusing on innovation and partnership, and consistently delivering professional, culturally appropriate care, Hagar's team in Afghanistan has adapted to the new reality in the country and continues to walk the whole journey of restored life and dignity with individual survivors.
