Jewish Family Service of MetroWest NJ (JFSMW) proudly invests in the development of its staff and board of directors. Staff are encouraged to attend trainings to increase their capacity to provide much needed community services and often participate in continuing education on such topics including but not limited to mental health, domestic violence, and trauma-informed care. The board of directors participates in an annual board retreat, discussing such topics as DEI (Diversity Equity Inclusion) and strategic planning. JFSMW has further invested in outside consultants to work with the board on strategic planning, and to work with staff on outcome measurements.

JFSMW's believes it is important to advocate on behalf of its clients. As part of the agency's domestic violence legal committee, significant advocacy work is done on behalf of victims of domestic violence. Further, JFSMW is a member of a network of agencies who collaborate to develop advocacy efforts that are critical to community need.

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
The pandemic has ushered in a mental health crisis. Reports from the National Institute of Mental Health as well as the Centers for Disease Control have illustrated substantial increases in self-reported mental health symptoms. For JFSMW, this has been demonstrated by the increasing demand for mental health care by the community. In the past year alone, intake calls to the agency requesting services have increased by 33%. To ensure the agency is responding to calls for such critical services as soon as possible, JFSMW hired an additional intake social worker to meet the demand. Together, this 1.5FTE position enables JFSMW to respond more efficiently to the Intake line while simultaneously meeting the increased complexity of cases.
