LEAP

Mission

Founded in 1992, LEAP works to develop the strengths and talents of young leaders who implement year-round, community and school-based programming designed to achieve positive academic and social outcomes for children living in high poverty urban neighborhoods. LEAP reaches into neighborhoods that are laden with a shortage of positive resources, and we empower the children and youth of these communities to be positive resources themselves. The very essence of LEAP stands for the primary components of a developing student's life: Leadership, Education, Athletics, and Partnerships.

1.LEAP will provide free and accessible services to over 750 children and teens ages 7-12, building a strong, youth-led community for families who live in New Haven’s poorest neighborhoods.
2.LEAP will invest in more professional development resources for both full-time staff and student counselors, New training strategies will better equip staff to address the needs of our community.
3.LEAP will employ over 220 high school and college students as LEAP counselors and instructors. Counselors will receive leadership development as well as college and career support.
