Vision

One evening on MDI, a neighbor takes her dog for a walk. She passes homes and sees a couple leaving the hardware store and heading into a restaurant. Others are heading to a program at the library, and others are going on shift at the Fire Department. A few are going to the Town Office for a meeting. There is a general bustle in the town. People are living on MDI because they own homes with covenants held by IHT, making them affordable to purchase and keeping them affordable for the future. Others are renting year-round apartments, and some are saving toward a down-payment. These opportunities provide stability for the residents. They provide stability for businesses to stay open year-round because there are sufficient customers, and they can recruit and retain employees. Island Housing Trust is known for its work and partnerships protecting year-round communities on MDI by providing housing opportunities affordable for those who earn a typical income working on the island.

Goals

1. 1.Create 30 new year-round residential opportunities, to include building new homes, and securing land for the development of new homes. These opportunities may include rentals as well as homeownership.
2. 2.Advance and advocate for private and public policies that assure long-term housing affordability for those earning a typical income on MDI.
3. 3.Develop sustainable funding for IHT.
