...   Finance & Accountability

Charity Navigator evaluates a nonprofit organization’s financial health including measures of stability, efficiency and sustainability. We also track accountability and transparency policies to ensure the good governance and integrity of the organization.

No Score

We have not issued this nonprofit an Finance & Accountability score. This does not indicate a positive or negative assessment, only that we have not reached a conclusion for the following reason:

This organization cannot be evaluated by our Encompass Rating methodology because it files Form 990-EZ, as allowed by the IRS for charities with less than $200,000 annual revenue.

The lack of a rating for this reason simply means that the organization does not meet our rating criteria. It does not indicate a positive or negative assessment by Charity Navigator.

...   Impact & Results

Charity Navigator assesses how well a nonprofit delivers on its mission. To issue an Impact & Results score, we estimate the actual impact a nonprofit has on the lives of those it serves, and determine whether it is making good use of donor resources to achieve that impact.

No Score

We have not issued this nonprofit an Impact & Results score. This does not indicate a positive or negative assessment, only that we have not reached a conclusion for one of the following reasons:

  • The nonprofit is eligible for a score, but we have not yet gotten to scoring it.

  • The nonprofit is eligible for a score, but we have not yet developed the specific algorithms to estimate the impact of the type of service it delivers and so cannot issue a score yet.

  • The nonprofit does not primarily deliver services directly to beneficiaries or it is not reasonable to expect the nonprofit to measure impact for its primary activity. The impact analysis framework that we use is not well suited to these nonprofits.

  • The nonprofit is not heavily reliant on individual donors because beneficiaries fund a majority of its costs or it does not receive any private charitable contributions.

What is your organization aiming to accomplish?

The Alliance for Morris County Parks will support the Morris County Park Commission by raising funds for programs and facilities through donations, grants, and sponsorships. The Alliance will also encourage support through community outreach, advocacy, and partnerships.

What are your strategies for making this happen?

The Alliance for Morris County Parks seeks sponsors, donors, and grants for programs and facilities. An annual golf outing is held to provide funding for specific programs or construction. The Alliance forms partnerships with companies, nonprofits, and social service agencies to enhance programs of the Morris County Park Commission as well as promote the Park Commission's many programs and facilities. An annual community awards event is held to recognize outstanding parks and recreation achievements in local communities. By cooperating with the Park Commission, the Alliance utilizes a quarterly newsletter, website, Facebook page and press releases to keep the public advised of its activities.

What are your organization's capabilities for doing this?

The Alliance for Morris County Parks is led by a dedicated group of volunteer board members from business, education, and the community. The Executive Director has been working in the field for more than 25 years and has a Master degree in Administrative Science with a concentration in nonprofit and government management. The resources of the Park Commission are made readily available for Park Alliance activities. Community support for parks is high and there are many who will support a special project or program.

How will your organization know if you are making progress?

Completion of Park Alliance projects generally results in qualitative measures. Comments from the public, partners and/or sponsors can show the results of efforts. Visitation, if available, can be measured to provide a benchmark of success. Positive coverage by local print and social media also lends credence to the organization's efforts.

What have and haven't you accomplished so far?

In its many years of operation, the Park Alliance has supported the Park Commission in construction of a golf course rain shelter, a picnic shelter at a historic site, two dog parks, and an accessible playground. Program support has been provided for Native American events, volunteer recognition, National Night Out, school field trips for environmental education, and walkability/trail connectivity. Future planning includes another picnic shelter, outdoor exercise equipment, exhibit enhancement at an environmental center, and continuation of recommendations for a county wide trail system.
