This organization was impacted by COVID-19 in a way that effected their financial health in 2020. This normally would have reduced their star rating. Due to the unprecedented nature of the pandemic, we give charities such as this one the opportunity to share the story of COVID's impact on them, and doing this pauses our revision of their rating. Charities may submit their own pandemic responses through their nonprofit portal.
Rose House reported being impacted by COVID-19 in the following ways:
Program Delivery
Fundraising Capacity
Revenue
Staffing
Administrative Capacity
How COVID-19 impacted the organization's operations financially:
Our primary income source is client billing for residential services. We had a 21% vacancy rate due to residents staying with family out of program for extended periods. This would equate to $428,000 loss during the height of the pandemic.
How COVID-19 impacted the organization's delivery of programs:
We had to begin with numerous preventative measures including PPE. Community activities were non-existent for our residents. We had to pay many staff members overtime pay due to call-outs.
How this organization adapted to changing conditions caused by COVID-19:
We had to comply with new state regulations for the care of special needs adults. We needed to create a stockpile of PPE supplies to last throughout the pandemic. In addition, we had to invest in equipment for video meetings. Administrative staff rotated working from home throughout the pandemic.
Innovations the organization intends to continue permanently after the pandemic:
Zoom video meetings and paperless payroll were implemented. Masks, hand sanitizer and other protective equipment (when needed) had to be added as well. We had to provide access to testing sites in the event of future need. Work-from-home capabilities were necessary as well.
