Public Counsel

Mission

Public Counsel is a nonprofit public interest law firm dedicated to advancing civil rights and racial and economic justice, as well as to amplifying the power of our clients through comprehensive legal advocacy. Founded on and strengthened by a pro bono legal service model, our staff and volunteers seek justice through direct legal services, promote healthy and resilient communities through education and outreach, and support community-led efforts to transform unjust systems through litigation and policy advocacy in and beyond Los Angeles.

We are working to significantly expand fundraising to support our staff, sustain our current work, and expand our capacity to address emerging priorities. We are also revitalizing and enhancing the finance function to support current and projected budgets, report on key metrics over time, and manage risks and complexities.
3.Public Counsel aims to retain, advance, and empower staff and prioritize their wellness within an inclusive, collaborative environment. We are working nurture an exceptional workplace; further diversify staff and bolster diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts; strengthen interconnectedness among staff; and promote open communication between staff and the community and staff and the Board.
